IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL MEMBERS!!!!

The collapse of the first round of merger talks, and subsequent departure of members, has left us in a poor condition to continue with Forbidden as equals.. but this was never an issue of who was bringing the most TO the table, but what our two guilds could do together.  Instead of Forbidden merging with the Temple, the Temple is now merging with Forbidden.  When able, and if you desire to move your characters to Forbidden, contact either Tarnhorst, Phaityl, or Anuhotep ingame or via PM/forums to arrange your ingame move.

1.06 is live!

Assassin revamp.  T3 raiding, revised T1-T2 loot tables with the new token system.  And most anticipated (at least by me!) guild city enhancements!  Any and all are invited to have their temple char(s) raise one of our towers to T2, and now is the time to reconsider going back and doing those instances you skipped on the climb to 80.  Points are points!

Welcome

You stand on the threshold!

Know, oh Prince that in the middle days of the rule of Conan, the Barbarian King of Aquilonia, the plague of war lay heavily on all lands.

In Cimmeria, the Vanir and Ymirish grew bolder, enlisting allies from Hyperborea to press southward against the powerful tribes of the valleys. Nemedians plagued the Aquilonian empire, venturing even in the city of Old Tarantia to pillage and burn the homes of nobles, filling the streets below Conan’s palace with bright rivers of blood.

In Stygia, bandits and rebel soldiers warred against the temples and, within the faithful lands, the lord of evil, Thoth Amon, twisted and perverted the laws of Set and raised up false prophets.

In this age of unprecedented conflict, the world churned. Populations and individuals, uprooted by conflict or seeking employment for sword and spell, traveled far and wide. The insularity of Stygia was breached. The streets of once-hidden Khemi swarmed with foreigners, passing through the new crossroads of the south in search of fortune, adventure, and pleasure.

A small sect within the priesthood of Set had prepared for such a day. The Temple of Shadows stretched out long fingers across the world’s map, sending forth priests and priestesses to learn the ways of alien lands, so that Set’s glory might spread on the waves of war and strife.

Employing agents of every realm, buying loyalty with silver, with lotus, with flesh, and with the promises of power and knowledge, the Temple of Shadows prepared itself for the new age that would follow the shaking of the world.

Interested in joining?

We have 4 primary rules for prospective members.

  • Have a back story for your character that fits into the Temple's lore (see below for more).
  • We are dedicated RPers. Always stay in character in-game -- no part-time RP.
  • Respect your fellow RPer.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

If you are interested in joining, you can post here to let us know who you are and why you are interested in joining or you can send a tell in-game to any of our members.

In most cases, we will want to RP with you in-game at least once before approving your application.

Character types welcome in the guild:

Although we are Stygian culture guild, the Temple’s mission – to understand foreign cultures and to prepare priests and priestesses to go among them – means that the guild will also seek men and women of other cultures who can help further the mission.

The guild’s leadership will always be Stygian unless excellent in-game RPed reasons cause things to be otherwise.

With regard to races – just because the tag over a character's head says Cimmerian or Aquilonian they do not have to be either. If a player has an "Aquilonian" Guardian but plays them as if they were born in Stygia to Stygian parents, then they are Stygian.

Priests and Priestesses of Set. Any Stygian class can be a priest or priestess, though obviously the magical classes are more likely to hold the position, The Temples purpose is the training of priests and priestesses to act as missionaries to the wider world or, in some cases, to perform specific acts (quests, raids, etc.) in other lands. Some priests and priestess may be accompanied by a Shadow, but Shadows are not required. Priests or priestesses should be Set-worshipers, either native or converted, and are generally the highest ranking members of the Temple, treated with deference by the other classes. A PoM or bear Shaman could become a convert, but the back story would need to be a good one.

Shadows – a Shadow is a minion of the Temple assigned either to a particular priest or priestess or to assist the priest/esses generally. Shadows are not servants but they are a lower rank than priest/esses.

Spectres -- Intelligence Gathering/Secret Inquisitors/Spies- Temple adherents dedicated to monitoring the other factions of Set, foreigners and foreign lands.
(Or, if Hereka heads it up, SPECTRE: Slingers of Perch, Electric Catfish, Tuna, Redfish, and Eels. [added by Anuhotep])

Soldiers – there are two classes of soldier.

  • Temple Guards/Expeditionary Force – Loyal Set worshipers who guard the Temple itself and those of the elite Expeditionary Force. Temple Guards, for the most part they will be at the Temple and will probably be NPCs. Where as the Expeditionary Force are elite troops that venture into the world doing assignments from guard and escort duties to shock troopers used in very dangerous assignments on foreign soil.
  • Mercenaries – May be any race. Hired guns that may or may not worship Set, but who are well-advised not to directly insult Set or appear to disbelieve.
Liaisons – any race or class, but you will need to work out a story to explain why you have been assigned to the Temple (we can help).

Temple Prostitutes - men and women trained in the arts of pleasure, dedicated to serving the priests and priestesses' needs and performing such other amorous activities as the temple may direct. This courtesan class may also serve other roles, such as liaison or spy.

Slave Masters/Slavers/Slaves-Slaves may enter the guild without being the personally owned property of an individual character. A Slave Master would be a person with elevated rank within the temple who is trusted, and devoted to Set and the ToS and who handles the trade in slaves.

Merchants/Crafters/Builders- Employed by the Temple for construction and trade, these members need not be devoted to Set initially, though the leader of this section will be an active member of the temple and be devoted to Set.

General information

The Temple of Shadows is a dedicated roleplaying guild on the Wiccana server of Age of Conan. By dedicated, we mean that characters should always be “in character” in their in-game interactions. We are actively seeking other RPers whose focus is character-based and story-based RP and welcome people who want to learn about our style of RP.

We have a guild city – the temple and grounds of the sect – but most of our RP takes place “in the world.” Our guild city is  in the Purple Lotus Swamp.

We do socialize in guild chat and we quest, but these activities are secondary to RP. We do not use vent.

RP is almost entirely in “say.” Tells can be either IC (a whisper for example) or OOC, and Guild chat and Group chat are OOC. There are exceptions to all of these, of course. Use common sense.

We encourage members and prospects to sign up so that you can stay abreast of upcoming events and story-lines.

Other considerations:

Members must be over 18 years old.

Creativity is highly encouraged.

Posting stories on the guild board is not required but can add to the sense of background and depth of RP.

RP is essential. Strong character-based RP or stories are encouraged and fostered, both within the guild, with other guilds, and with non-guilded players.

We are a mature group of RPers and deal with mature subject matter in the course of our RP, with each player deciding for themselves the degree of mature subject matter they are comfortable with. We are not here to create a venue for cybersex, but just as stories and novels deal with sex, violence, and social issues, so do we.

Respect your fellow RPer. Never do anything that is likely to make another player OOC uncomfortable.

IC conflict should never be mixed up with OOC conflict and vice versa.

We believe that IC actions have IC consequences. If your character does something awful to the Temple or to a priest or priestess, we won’t be sitting down for drinks with you anytime soon.

The real world always comes first. If you are in an RP scene and RL intrudes, send a message, step away, and take care of it! Nobody will mind as long as they are not trying to talk to someone who isn’t there.

Stories:

Our character bios can be found in the Roster section. Members are encouraged to add their bio there and expand on it as needed. Tales about members of the guild and the stories we are building in-game may be found in the forums under Library.
